The inaugural KBSC Family Fun Day went ahead as planned on August Bank Holiday Saturday. What a great day.

All the cardboard canoes were fantastic, loads of planning and effort had obviously gone into making them and they made quite a sight as they proceeded up river. We did have a sneaky feeling that there was more than just cardboard in some of them, though.

We had expected them all to sink somewhere between our slipway and our pontoon, but most of them had to be pulled out of the river just before they moored up at Elmhaven Marina.

The relay ski race was very competitive, even though the speed of the boats had been set to 25mph (+/- 20mph), with team Commodore just taking the win from team Hurley. There was some debate as to whether both drivers had followed the rules about going around the marker buoys, but as the cheating had taken part on both teams, the result stands.

The ‘have a go’ was very popular with our guests, and the weather was kind to us, which was a bit of a surprise for a bank holiday weekend. Lots of people turned up to enjoy themselves.

Thanks go to Glynn and Lis for organising the day, to Darren for being Master of Ceremonies, to everyone for turning up (especially those with canoes) and to the boat owners for making their craft available during the day. I am sure this will not be the last cardboard canoe race at the KBSC.
